Trat: Koh Chang

Koh Chang-banner

Koh Chang an island and a district (amphoe) in Trat. It is located in the Gulf of Thailand.

Koh chang is located about 350 km to the south east of Bangkok.

Koh Chang is reachable by car ferry from the mainland of Trat. It only takes about 30 minutes to cross the water. There are no passenger-only boats to the island.

Koh Chang is the third largest island of Thailand. It is the largest island in the Mu Ko Chang National Park. Koh Chang is part of an archipelago which contains about 52 islands. Besides Koh Chang the most known islands are Koh Kut / Koh Kood, Koh Mak and Koh Rang

Koh Chang means Elephant Island. Although there are elephants on the island it is not the natural habitat of elephants. (I advise you not to encourage exploitation of elephants on the island.) It is supposedly named to its elephant head shaped land.
