Trip to Koh Wai

Koh-Wai-Banner

My husband and I wanted to celebrate the day we got engaged with a snorkeling trip by private speed boat. We decided to visit Koh Wai. We opted for the smallest boat suitable for 5 people. Our hotel notified that the small speed boat was not available, but we could rent a larger speed boat for 1000 Baht extra. We were not going to let 1000 Baht stop us from this opportunity. So why the hell not!?

Koh Lao Ya

The first stop was at Koh Lao Ya. There was nobody on the beach when we arrived. Because we had a private boat it was completely up to us to decide how long we wanted to stay. We stayed there for about 2 hours. We were all alone for the entire time. The water was quite clear and there were many small to medium sized fish. A part of the seabed only had sand and another part was completely covered with coral. In the part with coral there were many interesting fish and other creatures. I made a short video in the water. You can find it at the bottom of this page.

When a big boat with tourists arrived we decided to go to the next stop. I love peace and quiet while traveling. When hyperactive people with too small shorts start jumping off boats while screaming it kind of ruins the vibe for me.

Party-boat Could be fun, but time to move for me!

Koh Wai

While we were snorkeling at Koh Lao Ya the crew prepared a fruit platter for us, which they served us at a small beach in Koh Wai. I went in the water right after I finished the last piece. I think I was still chewing when I walked into the water. I just love swimming and snorkeling so much.

Koh-Wai-1 Beautiful colored coral with a lot of different kind of fish.

When I told the crew I was getting hungry they brought us to the South of Koh Wai to a resort with a restaurant on the shore. Not only was the food delicious. The view was stunning! It was quiet and relaxing.

Koh-Wai-south A very idyllic place on koh Wai.

You could clearly see there were rocks or coral on the seabed. I asked them if there were many fish cause I was willing to snorkel over rocks and coral if it was worth it. The captain didn’t really answer my question. He told me to step back into the boat and he’d bring us to a place where there were many fish. We arrived at a wooden pier when the crew told us to jump in. The water was crystal clear. He wasn’t exaggerating! We could barely move without touching the fish. I’ve added a short video below. It was breathtaking!
